Old, young, gay, straight, able bodied or not, heroes are heroes. Two of mine cropped up today.
Jonnie Peacock broke the 100m world record and there's a great interview with Sir Derek Jacobi in today's Sunday Telegraph (alas I have no link to that!)

Ooh, I had a massive crush on Sir Derek when he was in I,Claudius. Brilliant actor and I loved him as Alan Turing.

I had a crush on him from seeing him on the BBC as Hamlet. Then as Benedict at Stratford. Cor.

I squeed with delight when I saw Derek Jacobi on the front of today's magazine. What a lovely interview!

Wouldn't you just love to spend half an hour in his company?

How could you not love Sir Derek? :) He'll always be Claudius to me, but I also loved his small role as the chorus in Branagh's Henry V.

I think that was one of his best ever roles. (Just watched it again last week.) So clear and lucid, so butch so...realistic.

Which one? Claudius or the chorus? Thought I agree, both are brilliant!

Oh yes. And as Hamlet in the same series. *happy sighs* Not to mention him as Turing.

Agreed. He is quite possibly the best chorus I have ever seen. (Second only to a broad Scots chorus in Theatre Babel's amazing production of Medea. They were chilling.)
