Retiring or beginning?

I have trained my last school governor! I was going to finish in the summer but was asked to stay on for another term; last week I did my final session. I had a lovely letter thanking me for my work and wishing me well in retirement.

Retirement? I'm looking forward to ploughing the extra time into the writing career. At least, that's the plan; some extra visits to this place may feature.

I am pleased, selfishly, that you will have more time to write. I am sure that training up school governors was a net good for the world, but I am looking forward to more books!

Congratulations on the change in priorities! I am jealous.

I've spent a lot of time this week wondering why I agreed with an agency when they said that working for the MOD would look really good on my CV and I'd be made for life. (This is a potential job that I hope never materialises.) I'm not looking for things that'll look good on my CV, I'm not looking for career progression or development in my day job. I'm looking for something relatively unimportant and undemanding that'll last for around five years before my eyesight gets too bad to drive. Shame I can't say that to agencies or employers!

Very true, although I knew it was the right decision from the sense of relief I got after I made it. Had some temptation to stay on into the new year but I stayed firm.

Congratulations! It sounds like you're ready to embrace the next phase of your life! I'm trying not to be a teeny bit envious here at the writing time you'll have! Although... I have a suspicion retirement gets filled up with lots of other nice things to do as well!
