The shadow of the past

The bridge in the first photo used to carry a railway, that ran west along the embankment in the second snap. A railway that transported the raw materials to construct the sea fortifications in St. Ouen's bay, during WWII. Fortifications that were built by slaves under the direction of the occupying German army. You can follow the line east on google maps.

This all happened fewer than twenty years before I was born. We must never forget.
