'Aftermath' - update

Well, the last month or so has been an enormous learning curve for me. Choosing titles, choosing cover pictures, organising publicity; I'm so pleased I was doing all this as part of a triumvirate or else I would have been drowning. (Writing the story really was the easy bit.)

The latest joy has been doing an edit. Actually, I've learned an awful lot about my shortcomings (someone should restrain me from the use of my beloved semi-colons and from changing point of view all the time).

That said, the editing will be finished tonight, I hope.

I'd request gin but I have a taxi run to do at 11.30pm....

By my reckoning, it's well into the evening over there -- I'm cheering you to the finish line!

Thank you. Have breasted the tape and sent mss back with what I hope are final amendments.

If it's any consolation--while she was waiting for your revisions she was probably putting pretty colored lines all over mine...

*giggle* That's what I have to look forward to if I ever get to that point. *sigh*

*cheers you on*

Just out of interest, what does the editing involve? Aside from removing semi-colons - I'll restrain your use of them if you'll do something about my blatant comma happiness. *g*

Prettier than the lines on mine?

Thank you. It's a nice thing, actually, to have someone take an objective view or your writing. All part of the 'getting better' thing.

I will give you comma depressors for Christmas...

There seem to be two stages of editing; content (which we all got through unscathed) and copy, which is what I've just done. This picked out problems with punctuation (which was basically the old ; and - overuse and easy to resolve), my jiggling about with POV (which took longer to sort out but taught me masses about writing) and a few bits and bobs where errors had got through. The sweetest bit was where the protags are at a cricket match and one refers to 'the rough' and the editor thought there was a word missing, ie the rough something.

*nods* I know what you mean. I wrote a fic for Stephie to welcome her home and she said that it's one of my better stories to date. *preens* I told her that's my goal: to improve my writing through fanfiction. As well as original work.

The only thing that is rough is the editor's knowledge of cricket. What are they teaching them over there? Honestly...

Hon, this belongs nowhere, but I thought I would sneak it in here.

Have sent the link to my eldest, who is a huge fan of Avenue Q. Thanks!
