Two big matches today - our rugby lads being stuffed by Australia as I type (at least my lovely Nigel Owens is reffing) - and then the footie tonight.

This is cheesy and jingoistic and brings a lump to my throat (so many of my sporting heroes feature). This is my sort of team talk.

I’m beginning with an apology if you’ve had trouble ordering Lessons in Love at Amazon UK – there’s a technical glitch which we’re trying to sort out (something to do with Nielsen data) which is preventing it appearing for sale. There are loads of other places to get it, including The Book Depository which is offering free worldwide delivery on all titles.

News:

Lovely review of ‘Last Gasp’ here.
“It follows a familiar pattern of boy-meets-boy, boy-likes-boy-but-is-wary-of-saying-anything, dangerous-thing-happens, boy-realizes-that-the-attraction-is-mutual. Just because it follows this pattern, though, doesn’t mean that it’s not enjoyable or original. I actually enjoyed this story the most out of the anthology.”

Another bit of Cambridge fellows self-crossover-fanfic if you’re into that sort of thing. (Fans of Jean-Luc Picard might like it.)

Inspiration:

I sometimes see things – a little interaction between people, a beautiful place, objects which tell a story and move me – all of which inspire me to write. ‘All that Jazz’ came out of a tiny little scene I saw in a rugby club car park.

This is another such thing.

I might not ever tell Sukha’s tale but he motivates me to tell the story of decent people who do the right thing even if it hurts.
