I'm reading "Alan Turing, the enigma" by Andrew House (thank you [livejournal.com profile] anteros_lmc for sending it to me!) By turns it's heart warming and heart wrenching. It also challenges some of our perceptions/stereotypes.

Turing was a mathematical genius, yet for Christmas 1934 (he was 22) he asked his parents for a teddy bear as he'd not had one as a boy. He got it. On at least one occasion, students arriving at his rooms for a supervision(tutorial) found the teddy bear by the fire with a booked propped up in front of him and were told that "Porgy is very studious this morning".

So, if you write about a serious character and people snipe and say "That's too silly, he'd never do that," quote Turing at them.
