Got myself a cheap second hand copy of The Penguin Book of Gay Short stories, which is proving a much better read than the book I ranted about last week, not least because people like Barbara Pym and Graham Greene are clearly better authors! It's a great book to dip into - last night I read Greene's "May we borrow your husband?" which got me thinking. This is just the sort of story I can imagine being written from the husband's POV as a bit of a romp, with him being given a cleverly pragmatic HFN to fall into. But Greene takes it from a neutral observer's viewpoint, so we see two people hurt (though one is unaware of it, as yet) and are left with the uncomfortable truth of two characters pursuing their needs at the expense of others. That's what I call good writing.
And I'm probably way behind on this, but just got sent the video link. This guy is a star.
