English footie? Pfft.
Jun. 28th, 2016 03:11 pmI've been watching sport for as long as I can remember, and supporting our national teams through thick and thin (and there's been a lot of the latter). I've groaned as our middle order collapsed in the 90's, and cringed as Wales ran in try after try in the 70's. But last night's football - well, I despair.
If these last few days have seen our country get a reality check, then one is due for the football fans, pundits, media etc. The Premiership is not the best league in the world. If it were, English clubs would consistently perform at the highest in the European club competitions, and they don't. English footballers are not world class, no matter what their salaries may be. If they were, we'd be winning these sorts of matches.
Still, at least it was a good excuse to watch this to cheer myself up. We've won a world cup already this year - this is real sporting class.
