Like me, you no doubt get a lot of junk e-mails. I don't mean the ones saying you've won mythical millions in non-existent lotteries, but the genuine marketing ones from real companies whose mailing lists you're certain you never subscribed to.
I've taken not just to unsubscribing, but to contacting the companies directly to request an explanation about how my name ended up on their list. Maybe more of us could do it? One can only hope (hah!) that if we cause them work they might think twice about their data systems.
