Over the next couple of weeks, a great wodge of my time will be spent helping at a local charity project, Christmas Complete. I'll be making up parcels, checking parcels and generally doing anything that's needed. I'll also be taking in the boxes and bags of goodies I've been accumulating since just after last Christmas (why pay full price for wrapping paper when it's cheap as chips in January?) It's huge fun, not least because of the sense of well-being it engenders. There really is no experience like helping other people at this time of year.

What goes into a package? A cuddly toy, arts and crafts things, a game/puzzle, a couple of books, age appropriate toys/gifts. These get made up for specific children so if they have special needs they can be taken into account. When the individual packages have been checked, they go to the packing elves who add in wrapping paper and chocolates for the family to share.

In 2018, over 1800 children and young people were referred to SCRATCH and so received a package of around 8 gifts each from Christmas Complete - some of whom, through family circumstances, may not have received anything else otherwise. There but for the grace of God go any of us.

While we get a huge number of presents and goods donated, we still have to buy some top-up supplies, while distributing packages isn't done on fairy dust and reindeer sneezes. You can help by donating to our crowdfunding appeal or via the website.

This post was inspired by an idea from Alex Jane, elf in chief of the Rainbow Advent Calendar.
