Having done the guest bit for the Festival of Romance blog, yesterday, today I'm hosting the delightful Hywela Lyn. Living in a small village in England, Lyn was born and lived most of her life in rural Wales and is very fond of her Welsh heritage. Hywela is her real first name but she’s always been known as Lyn, so decided to combine her first and second name as her pen-name. She writes sweet to spicy romantic Science Fiction and Fantasy.

1. What are you looking forward to at the Festival of Romance?
It will be so interesting to put ‘names’ to ‘faces', to meet new friends, lots of other UK authors, and hopefully some readers as well. My books are published in the US, and although I love my publisher and all the friends I’ve made across the pond, I am really looking forward to being part of the Romance scene, here in the UK, at The Festival Of Romance. Oh – and chocolate tasting! I’m definitely looking forward to the chocolate tasting! This will be the first ‘Book Festival I have ever attended, and I’m really excited.

2. What will you be doing at the Festival of Romance?
Well apart from meeting people and learning as much as I can, on Friday I'm one of the authors on the panel ‘Romance That's Out of This World’ (which also happens to be my ‘tagline’) from 11.20 AM, with Lynne Connolly and Tara Newlands. We’ll be discussing paranormal, SF and fantasy romance.

Then in the afternoon I’ll be giving a brief talk about horses in fiction, at the ‘Research Club', and will hopefully be able to answer any questions other authors may have. At the same event, Roger and Gill Sanderson will be sharing their knowledge of medical matters, and Jan Jones will talk about Theatre.

On Saturday I’m not taking part in any panels or discussions, so I’ll be absorbing as much of everything that’s going on as possible!

3. Why should romance readers come to the Festival?

If you’re an aspiring writer yourself, there are so many events and opportunities at the Festival to find out more about getting published, with agents and publishers in attendance. If you’re a reader with no aspirations in the writing world yourself, just a love of books (and bless ‘em, where would we be without readers?) then you’ll have the chance to meet and chat to some wonderful authors, and share in the love and enthusiasm we all have for romantic fiction. Oh, and chocolate tasting – did I mention that there’s chocolate tasting?

Lyn's blog is here!

This sounds fantastic - I'd love to go! The coffers won't reach to it this year, but maybe next. I'm dead keen to attend Lyn's research session on horses in fiction as that would be very useful to me!!

I love these sorts of esoteric sessions which are absolutely spot on. I need one about brands of sweets through the 20th century.

Hi Kate - what a pity you won't be able to attend, I hope you will manage it next year. It's so easy if you're writing something that features horses, like an historical novel, to get the facts wrong if you're not a 'horse person' yourself, so I thought it might be a helpful topic to talk about. If you're ever stuck for some 'horsey information' you can always contact me at Lyn @ hywelalyn. co. uk (No spaces) or through my blog, and I'll try to help.

Hello - and thank you so much!! I'm working on a novel at the moment that is set in a period where horses were a crucial part of society and travel (Elizabethan England) and, although I always try to do a little research, being such a novice always leaves me a little unsure. I've never ridden horses, just patted the odd friendly nose!!

When I start editing and polishing, I may will be in touch, if that's okay? Thank you so much for your kind offer :)
