Just for you, here's an unedited sneak preview of my next Samhain novel, Slam! (due out April 2013):
“You could join in, you know,” Keisha muttered. “Now you’ve got the proper kit and everything.” “Are you still on about that? Nah, football is so not my thing. Matt Fishel and me are like soul mates.” I hummed a few bars of Football Song to prove my point. “Anyway, why don’t you join in if you want to be friendly? You can kick way harder than I can anyway.” “True, but some of us have better things to do than welly footballs around.” “Like what?” “Like go say hi to Lauren. I’ll see you in there.” Suddenly looking more cheerful, she skipped off towards Lauren, who was smiling a lot more broadly than most people do when they see Keisha coming. I watched them with a hawk-like stare. I was beginning to have dark suspicions about those two. Well, not dark, really. More sort of rainbow-coloured.
The Football song provided much needed distraction today for a nasty blood test. All I had to do was picture the dancers in the video... (I have a bad history with blood draws. Baby corpsman have to learn somewhere-- but I once had one try for 45 minutes to 'get a vein.' He did not stop until both my arms had gone black and I threw up on him!) Anyway, today was just fine.
