To my shame, I can't remember who recommended The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society but they have my profound thanks. Such a good book. Handled big themes in a sensible and sensitive way. *happy sighs*

No idea what Canal Street Gothic is like but it looks fabby. And it's in aid of AKT. *more happy sighs*

Oooh! I'm going to buy that one (Canal Street Gothic) for my niece for Xmas. Someone will have to hide it though so I don't read it first. 😉 The recipe cd looks good as well. And all going to a good cause. Brilliant. 😃

*Happy sighs* here as well.

I think I'll put Canal Street on my Christmas list, if it doesn't shock the family...

I am reading a book called 'Spillover.' It is about the emergence of epidemic diseases. As i said to Anteros, if you only read one book about epidemics this year...

After that, I think I am going to go back and reread 'The old lie.' I think you steered me to that one. It is about the role of English public schools in WWI.

And by then I will want something happy and a little easy on the brain. Got any suggestions?

The Guernsey book is mostly happy, easy on the brain and delightful. If you want gay romance, maybe try A Hundred Little Lies.

Oh, and have you read Three Men in a Boat? (Jerome K Jerome) That's the sort of thing which might just pop up free or cheap on kindle.

It was me. I recommended the book in a PM to you. I'm really glad you liked it. I Googled the Channel Islands and Guernsey and saw how much of what they wrote was true ( including those ugly concrete bunkers).

Oh, thank you! I went to the messages but I must have deleted them all in a mad moment.

We go to Jersey every couple of years and the fortifications remain, as does the Undergound hospital and other signs of occupation. we once stayed in a house which had been requisitioned by the German motorbike corps. I must look to see if I have pics...
