Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] oceankitty1's post about candles, here's what's been lighting our dinner table since Advent started. We've not got our decorations up yet, but this is giving some seasonal cheer. The glass plate thing was my parent's so that has Christmas memories, too!

That is beautiful, and gives such a cosy, festive feeling.

Thanks. It's rare I produce something so classy - arts and crafts not my scene (too clumsy...)

Awww! Big pine cones! I want some! They have cut down all the trees in the forest (in other words; there isn't a forest anymore)where I usually find them but I'm NOT going to buy any. I mean, they're free if on only cares to go for a walk. I love pine cones. Now you have inspired me to go on a hunt tomorrow, while it's still daylight out.

Your decoration brings nature inside. Isn't it amazing how something as simple as a candle can bring so much warmth to an otherwise cold season?

It is.

We sometimes get really big pine cones at hubby's golf course, but these ones came from a tree across the road. In someone's garden, but the branch fell in the road and I went and rescued it!

A good thing, too! Look how pretty they are. I had some really big one from the Canary Islands that I "rescued" as a child. Back then they were like a miracle, they were so big! I couldn't even make my hands meet when I held one. Nature is amazing.

I like! I always have candles going (well, except when it's over 80 degrees here which is 4 or 5 months out of the year). I did not drag out my advent wreath this year, but we have one at church so I figure I'm covered.

We don't have candles as often as we should. Nice solar lights in the garden for the summer, so I rarely use the candles out there. Should remember too, of course.

What colour candles does your church have on the ring?

The wreath itself is evergreen. There are 3 purple candles and one rose for Gaudete Sunday.

Brilliant. Very traditional!

Now I want to sing Gaudete, gaudete Christus est natus...

I loved the 70s acapella(?) version. Wonder if I have it on vinyl or tape anywhere.

Now that's a Christmas decoration I can enjoy. I have candles and there are three pine cones on the kitchen window sill...

Might have to go for a wander to the local arboretum and see what I can find.

Big pine cones-- makes me think of big fluffy squirrels. They are still finding acorns and things here. The ground has not frozen yet. They are bulking up for the lean days of February.

I am sure they would decorate with pine cones too! Yours are lovely.

Thank you.

If you'd like to come and liberate us of all our grey squirrels, so our native red ones could thrive, we'd be most obliged!

I'll bring Hazel. I have seen pictures of your red squirrels. They have those cute little ears-- like furry question marks. Do they grey squirrels bully them?

No, they seem to take their habitat, so the reds are being squeezed out...
