This looks absolutely fascinating. Thanks for the tip!
And yes, he was a stunning looking man. It'd be nice to find out some more about his life.

Oh, marvelous. Would love to read that - must see if it's available here. I'm ridiculously fond of reading war diaries.

*nods* It does look spiffing. I'd love to know why he didn't marry, of course...

It feels rather disrespectful that the 'never married' caught my attention too.

I know. I say it's looking at things with a modern eye, but it does make one feel guilty.

Doesn't it? It'll be another tear jerker. (Just finished reading The Riddles of the Wipers Times. *sniff*)

I was wondering earlier in the week if you'd seen this :) It's a remarkable discovery isn't it?

*nods* I only ran across it because I was trawling the local news. Fascinating.

His picture is a good one, he has a kindly face I think. But what really gets me by the throat is the little snippet of a picture of his handwriting.
My grandfather (born 1889) had handwriting just like that.

Yes, I know. That got me, too. And reminds me of something I should share. *off to post*
