A handful of books

There was a sale on at Romsey Library today. I love these things because you pick up all sorts of books you might not have tried. I got "How to Paint a Dead Man" by Sarah Hall (no idea what it'll be like - will give it a punt), The Killing of William Rufus (definite local interest) and Flights of Passage, recollections of a WWII aviator. When I got them home, I noticed the last one was written by Samuel Hynes. How I love coincidence! Sam Hines is the soldier hero of Awfully Glad!

Date: 2014-01-06 02:40 pm (UTC)I've got a full page magnifying glass now so reading paper books comfortably is possible again. Our library has moved to a new location which I haven't checked out yet - it's not been the same since the lovely manager and staff retired (all of them within a year) I haven't got to know the new people. It's all automated now so you don't get to chat like you did in the old days while your books were stamped - now I feel very old! It's even worse that I can easily remember the little cards in each book that got transferred to your mini-folder when you checked a book out.
Random content: I found a wonderful typo the other day where soldiers reached a village after several days hard marching and were allowed to rest for a day to 'recover from the depravations of the march'. Why do I always think of you when the military are involved? :) Not that you'd make that mistake.
Is there a special name for typos that don't show up in spell check, but are easily spotted by a reader?

Good luck with the new library.
