Not long back from the service of nine lessons and carols at Romsey Abbey. Absolutely beautiful - I kept thinking how much we take things for granted, sitting in a building that was first put up 1100 years ago and being part of those hundreds of years of awe and wonder. Lovely singing, as ever, especially the John Rutter.

It is a wonderful experience in an old building with a great choir. But we had our carol service in our small Victorian country church, V muddled the words of her solo, Rev forgot to accept the collection, none of us had enough breath for 'Ding Dong merrily on High' - and it was still wonderful!

Of course it was, because there's a real sense of wonder in these things. :) I usually go to St Boniface, Nursling, for the carols, but times didn't work out this year. That's small and can be a bit muddly but equally delightful.

Sorry, reading my comment again it sounded a bit snarky! I just meant that the Christmas message sounds great however you hear it.

I consider John Rutter the Mozart of our era. Brilliant man. What an amazing experience to be able to sit in that Abbey and hear it!
