Bu the best thing so far about April has been the Rugby for heroes calendar. *sighs*

It's a moving way to memorialize those lost. Having well-known people involved really helps to connect directly with the meaning and import of the memorial, and brings it right home to the here and now. My first comment was perhaps a bit flip, but in a way, that's sort of the point, or at least one of the points. He's not just someone in an old-timey photo, but someone I relate to.

*nods* Your comment wasn't flip - he is indeed a point of connection. Plenty of men who turned out for England gave their lives; George is our connection to Ronnie Poulton Palmer and Edgar Mobbs and the like. :)
