Just had an e-mail to say that I've been accepted as a member of the RNA! No quibbles about the fact that I write gay romance, just so long as I met the publishing criteria...

Can you imagine the chaos [livejournal.com profile] alex_beecroft and I could cause at one of their meetings?

Excellent! I was thinking this would be the year I do so too - but I can't find any details about local chapters on their new site - any ideas?

I think La Beecroft must go the Cambridge one - but that's still a hack for you, isn't it?

Yes - it's 80 miles. It's a bit far to go - specially if they meet in the evenings. And London is entirely out of the question. Oh well. I'll give it some thought.

We meet at lunchtime (1ish) and have lunch, so at least there's a good meal in it :)

And do you have a speaker? And a raffle? And men?

Alas, none of those things. We did have a secret santa at Christmas, but that's about the extent of it.

I think we should both go to the Christmas do this year! I met Immi from Samhain there in 2008, and it's great to see people in the flesh. She recognised me by my pen name - I felt like a proper author!

If we can manage it then I'm there for it. Is it in London?

Yes. We tend to go as a group on the train, which makes it easier to share taxis, and a lot more fun :)

I just hope it doesn't clash with anything else. It would be so nice to meet up.

It would be - though I'm even less prepossessing in the flesh :)

Thanks, toots. I've been to their local chapter's lunches on several occasions and they are an amazingly welcoming lot.

This is well-deserved. If what you do isn't "romance" than
I don't know the definition! Anything else would be admitting
a narrow-mindedness that is ridiculous in the 21st century --
or should be!

'Should be' being the operative word. Romance is romance, isn't it? And the members I've met have all been very inclusive (or at least they say the right things, which is fair enough). And they have very nice raffles!
