I make no secret of, and no apologies for, my Christian faith.; it's part of who I am. I know that I seem to walk out of step with many "Christians" who seem to feature in the media, but I'm not sure Jesus would recognise the brand of Christianity they peddle. Sermon over.

This is one of the vignettes I wrote when I used to share a series of advent posts on my "other" live journal.

The innkeeper speaks:

Bloody census. Bloody Romans. Turning the world upside down. I suppose they think if they keep the natives busy it'll cut down on trouble. Kept me busy alright - I didn't think so many people traced their family back to Bethlehem, but I guess with David and Solomon having all those women it's inevitable.
The young couple were late getting here, although I suppose that was inevitable as well, given the state she was in. One sneeze and the nipper would have been born. Not a bloody bed in the house to offer her, but my Rachel made them as comfortable as she could out in the stable. Nice and warm there, anyway, with the animals.
Stone me he had a pair of lungs on him, that little one. "Rachel," I said, "maybe he's going to be a preacher or a prophet with a voice like that."
Later on, when I heard about the strange guests who'd called in at my stable - I hadn't seen them, being rushed off my feet - I couldn't help thinking that maybe the world had turned on its head.
