Been a bit of a week chez Cochrane. Misbehaving boiler meant I couldn't make Ely meet up, have had leaking bath to be fixed, middle daughter having gastroscopy...oh the glamorous life of the novelist!

News:

Jonty and Orlando will be making an appearance at the Talk Like a Pirate Day party, this Sunday (19th September) at the Speak Its Name group (which is for the lovers of gay historical fiction). Oh aar, we be here, me hearties.
Just a ficlet, with a certain person refusing to dress as a pirate, even for a good cause.

I did an interview here where I reveal lots of things about how I write. (Yes, I know some of the cover art is wrong - not my fault, mi'lud!)

Inspiration: more of the wonders of Massachusetts

I love invertebrates and these jellyfish were perfect.

As was the view on still mornings.

I read the interview and laughed hard at this:

What is your favorite TV show?
At present, the modern Sherlock Holmes adaptation, with Benedict Cumberbatch. (I want him to play my Orlando from the Cambridge Fellows books!)

PRECIOUS! :P And, yes, please...

Out of curiosity, who would you pick to be Jonty?

Yes please indeed.

Jonty? A young Jamie Bamber (see icon) would be ideal.

Oh, yes! :D Thanks, I'm going to have an easier time picturing Jonty and Orland as I reread Lessons in Discovery for the nth time tonight before I go to bed. *grins*

I also just wanted to let you know that I've finally acquired Speak Its Name anthology. And I love Edward and Hugo so, so much. But it's so very short! Any chance we'll get to read more about them? And is their college the one Orlando attended when he was at Oxford? (Sorry for the off-topic questions... :P)

I don't think ther's any more of Hugo - they've stopped talking to me, if that makes sense. (As opposed to Jonty and Orlando who never stop yakking!)

Hugo and Edward were at Cranmer, Orlando at ganriel (although I think the early versions of one of the books has him at Cranmer, too!)

Very very nice visuals. You had me at Benedict Cumberbatch as Orlando even without this one.

Sounds like you've had a very busy time.

'Busy' just about starts to cover it.

Thanks for the good wishes and, yes, the visuals are appealing.

You know, everyone is going to start thinking you're a figment of my imagination...even I'm suspecting that they're right ;)

much hugs and love to middle daughter -- hope things go well!

I'm suspecting you're right!

Things went as well as could be expected. She was heavily sedated and afterwards was like a drunken sailor. Such larks.

Fingers crossed. She's had chronic reflux oesophagitis since childhood, and we've managed to control it up until this year when it's back with a vengeance (irritable bowel sybdrome, too). Just working out how to proceed with treatment, etc.

Thanks for good wishes.

Your poor girl. That sounds miserable. I hope they can come up with a treatment that is quick, painless, and successful. It's too hard to see your child ill, under any circumstances.:( Sending you both hugs.

Tank you. The last two weeks have been hard as she's been off her meds, but she can go back on those while we await test results. Poor lamb - she has an unquenchable spirit, though. And her coming round after sedatives will be part of Cochrane legend for a long time!

Writing dialogue and no filler? You'd have to drag me away from it :)

I remember I told my careers advisor in high school I wanted to do my work experience as screen writer - he laughed at the limited career options and I ended up at a chemist.

Ah, but I need to have instructions about where they are and what they're doing. And a proper plot, not the usual make it up as I go along. :)

That jellyfish photo is great. I wish my oceanarium photos came out half as well.

It's amazing that it wasn't the usual blur. Suspect one of the whompers was in charge of the camera, rather than me. :)
