We awoke today to the sight of a dead body on our lawn, in an advanced state of rigor mortis.

Bizarrely, the body showed signs of having it's lower abdomen ripped out, maybe at the hands (LOL) of a buzzard's beak.

DSCN7286

Yours truly disposed of the body and will be on the look out for repeat offences. Where's Jonty and Orlando when you need them to solve a problem?

I still suspect that the Tonkinese cat I had when I first moved here was murdered by squirrels, who taunted him into running in front of a delivery van.

That sounds exactly the sort of thing they'd do!

Poor little furry critter! I had a dead morning dove on my lawn a week or so ago and had the great joy of watching a huge hawk swoop in and carry it away. I felt very honored that the hawk let me watch him (or her). That bird was magnificent.

Is it a shrew? I notice nobody ate it.

No. Not a shrew. It was a rat. I think something had started to eat it and been disturbed.

You haven't been visited by our neighbours cat have you? He managed to catch a squirrel the other day. Don't know who was more shocked, him or the squirrel!

Quite possibly. We get various moggies wandering through.

Glad that cat is dealing with the tree rats... *g*

Awww I'm rather fond of the tree rats! There were none where I grew up so I still find them bit of novelty. Also you don't want to mess with Glasgow squirrels I can tell you! XD

Are they red? I will fight vociferously in their defence if they are. Grey are another matter...
